Lucky Lindy:
Relive one of the greatest feats and most amazing flights in Aviation History!
On May 20 - 21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh won the admiration and adulation of the world when he won the Orteig Prize by making the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris. Lucky Lindy amazed the world by staying awake at the controls of the Spirit of St. Louis for 33 1/2 hours, flying 3,600 miles before landing at Le Bourget Field in Paris. It has been 90 years since Lucky Lindy made his historic flight and achieved a fame that has not been duplicated since. Charles Lindbergh not only piloted his plane across the trackless Atlantic, but he also was instrumental in helping design the Spirit of St. Louis which now hangs in the Air & Space Museum at the Smithsonian Institute. Even by today's standards, Lindbergh's ability to navigate by dead-reckoning from New York to Ireland and then to Paris is astounding. Entertain and education your patrons with the facts that surround this amazing feat and learn about the man whose life story is also the story of the development of the science of aviation, from the early canvas and wire airplanes to the Boeing 747.
